432 Hz vs 440Hz: Some people think modern musicians are not tuning their instruments to the natural and more perfect frequency Verdis A (432 Hz). Has anyone else read about this on Melodyfusion? It's an interesting topic that you can Google and read from a lot of sources, here's just one of them: http://cassiopaea.org/forum/index.php?topic=16976.0 And here's a link to a youtube video where you can listen to the difference. http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0CB4QtwIwAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DLVoVr9UwOQM&ei=4ZDaVLm9GYvEggSD5IPoBQ&usg=AFQjCNGQB3dPBShWQkX0jJewTZdO8f--NA&sig2=fuGacjG6HKJ9jYcB5i4VrQ&bvm=bv.85761416,bs.1,d.eXY

I did the test, and it seems my ears prefer 440Hz. Maybe I'm just used to it. My electronic keyboards are preset to it, and my digital guitar tuner is set to it. Someone on one of your links commented that some people think Bach changed it. That lead me to recall having read that even temperament became prominent during the Baroque period, because it allowed for a more consistent sound when changning keys, and the 440hz "standard" is often associated with this. . It seems that an international "standard" for western music still doesn't exist. In 1885, the Austrian government recommended 435Hz (It's interesting that government even cared). The U.S. made 440 it's standard in 1926, while in Europe, it ranges from 440 to 444, with those who specialize in baroque-period music appear to prefer 415 for their purposes. Here's an interesting article that contains some of this info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A440_(pitch_standard) We have to remember that human beings have long been in the habit of trying to "harness and train" natural resources--including sound waves. I thought the experiment on youtube was interesting, but honestly, they were all acceptable-sounding. Just as long as we can keep equal temperament, I'll be happy!

Hi Rob, Thank you for your post and link. I find this topic so interesting. Regarding why governments got involved, some people think they did it on purpose to mess with our brains (no comment). There does however, seem to be a biological basis for saying 435hz being tied to the Golden Mean is healthier for our brains. "Changing frequency may also change the electric potential of the brain which may alter and affect memory and perception by the slight change and diamagnetic charge within the water in our cells." http://mega432.com/432-music/the-importance-of-432hz-music http://www.whydontyoutrythis.com/2013/08/440hz-music-conspiracy-to-detune-good-vibrations-from-natural-432hz.html

James, happy Memorial Day..! As you can see...like you, I am a Tele enthusiast..!! At present I have 5 different Teles, 3 strats, 3 Les Pauls, 2 SGs, 1 Jazzmaster, and a harem full of oddball and niche guitars. so, you're in Colorado there with Ingrid, our moderator....excellent !!

Stevie - I looked at the pictures of your Teles and you have several beautiful guitars! I love the way Teles work with such a wide range of effects and offer so many voicing options. I only have the 52 reissue in my profile picture (for now) as well as three Strats, one Strat with a Tele neck (so Joe Perry of me) and a Gretsch. I will post a few pictures at some point. Really enjoyed your tracks too. Have a blessed Memorial Day!

Beautiful! Remembering 'The NutCracker Suite"... I used the "worm into a butterfly" analogy, in fact, I use it a lot, to explain things such as not interfering with nature, because people tend to want to 'save' the 'worm' from turning when it goes into the coccoon, and also try to help the butterfly or moth out of the coccoon, which are both detrimental to the life of the creature. For instance, when a creature is dying, we tend to want to save it, when in actual fact, it is going through a metamorphosis, and that nature sometimes gives us glimpses of what it is like to pass from one body to the next... Anyways, just as you shared your beautiful composition, I thought I should share something, too, with you... Hope you are well... All fine here... Nearly Summer! xxx
